Metallica - Track 8 - Nothing Else Matters (Studio and S & M version)
This is the 'better' version of Nothing Else Matters. Anyone who has seen or heard the S & M concert will notice the split section showing how they performed both the live concert and the studio version of the song with both guitar pieces tabbed. When there are two guitars being played at the same time, the S & M piece will already be put in it without the need of an extra fill.
If you saw the older piece I added for Nothing Else Matters you will notice the addition of abetter bar system and the use of additional parts of the song I've labelled as 'Fills'. The split system between the parts where there are two guitars playing at once, has been labelledas either 'Guitar 1' or 'Guitar 2' and the member who plays that part has been noted.
Next to the name of the player, there will be a label reading 'Picked', 'Finger Picked' or 'Either'. These refer to what right hand technique the player is using. Note that 'Picked' refers to the use of a Plectrum or 'Pick'. Also, above each section is the timing for both versions of the song due to new Olga restrictions. For the time on S & M, I've labelled theintro beginning at 0:24 because you can hear the crowd at the beginning, and to write 0:0 would mess up the time. I've left out the timing in some of the fills but gave a short description of where to play them.
*Underneath* each section of the song, a chord name is labelled for people who wish to analyse the song's structure.
Yes, this can easily be played on an Acoustic Guitar.
This tab took a few hours to compile and is pretty close to how Metallica play the song.

I don't think it's necessary to add the chorus again so it will just appear here once with all the fills. Fill # 2, 3 4 and 5 appear here. The first time the chorus is played, Fill # 2is played at it's marked position. The second time the chorus is played, Fill # 3 and # 4 areboth played. The third and final time the chorus is played, Fill # 5 is played (Right beforethe Solo).

This is because James plays in a different time signature at one point.

After my last attempt at writing the solo, I received many emails from people correcting the position of the solo on the fret board. Here's the corrections, I won't add any names because there are too many of you :P

This is close to what they played on the S & M version of the song. Anyone who has seen the DVD will have noticed that James modified some parts of the solo and saw how they were played... They are the fills, added below the Solo. Refer to the studio solo for Kirk's rhythm, it will be in same time as the S & M. Yes, I may have missed some small bits.

There are a few ways this addition could be played, but here is the closest version I managed to work out. There are 2 ways to play it, you might find one of them easier.

This part didn't change much, but includes a few slides and the beginning starts off on the 17th fret. The empty space at the end of the second bar is where the fill ends and the rest of the solo takes place back towards the top.

The Open String part is played on S & M but not the studio, but here it is anyway. If you're playing the studio version then play the parts surrounded by stars.
